Workshops & Educational Breakouts at the Symposium

CHNC invites you to submit a workshop or didactic educational session proposal for the 2026 CHNC Annual Symposium, October 19-21 in Denver. Submission deadline is February 13.

Submissions from physicians, surgeons, nurses, data coordinators, allied health professionals, and all trainees are encouraged!  Your proposal should address issues of interest to the CHNC Symposium attendees. Sessions can range from 90 - 120 minutes

You will be expected to specify the type of session you are submitting. Below are criteria that have been adapted with permission from the Society for Simulation in Healthcare supporting the expected content for the respective sessions:

Workshops

Dynamic, interactive sessions that begin with explanatory or introductory information followed by audience participation and interactive activity, examples include:

  • Workshops can feature multiple presenters to keep content highly interactive.
  • At least 50% of the session should include interactivity between faculty and learners.
  • PowerPoint and other media are welcomed, but not to exceed 50% of the course time.

Workshops are suited for:

  • Demonstrations
  • Hands-on activity
  • Role play
  • Improving/acquiring skills or procedures
  • Problem-solving discussions

We will prioritize workshops that feature hands-on activities versus small-group discussion as primary interactive activities.

Didactic Educational Sessions
Best suited for small group discussions that may be less interactive than workshops. They can feature a presentation of a group project or a topic with coordinated discussion.

At least 30 minutes of audience participation is expected. It is recommended that presenters engage the audience as soon as the introduction and opening questions are completed and that no panelist presents for longer than five minutes. Question and answer segments from the audience should occur throughout the presentation.

A panel presentation typically features a designated moderator with around four panel members involved in an interactive discussion that invites participation from the audience. Aiming for a highly interactive discussion, it is encouraged that you list discussion topics in the course overview so attendees can bring relevant questions to the discussion.

Educational Breakouts are suited for:

  • Moderated panel discussion
  • Q&A Session
  • Debate-style presentation

Before starting a submission, please review the survey questions.

Please note that CHNC is unable to financially support travel, hotel, or registration costs for the session leaders/planners/presenters/participants, nor for shipping and handling of equipment or supplies. We look forward to the workshop teams attending the Symposium and are all expected to register for the event.
