Micrognathia

This multidisciplinary group focuses on understanding the evaluation and management of infants with micrognathia and associated craniofacial conditions.

Introduction

The Micrognathia Focus Group includes neonatologists, craniofacial surgeons, geneticists, pulmonologists, and other clinicians and researchers interested in improving the evaluation and management of infants with congenital micrognathia, (Pierre) Robin sequence, and associated craniofacial conditions.

Current Projects
  • describing the burden of disease in hospitalized infants with micrognathia, including length of stay and mortality, as well as the need for surgical intervention and tube feeding.
  • comparing outcomes of different surgical approaches, including tongue-lip adhesion, mandibular distraction osteogenesis, and tracheostomy.

Additional projects include evaluating outcomes of infants with rare syndromes that include micrognathia.  The group also has an interest in exploring craniofacial conditions other than micrognathia that affect infants and utilizing multicenter data and cross-disciplinary discussion to provide better evidence-based care.
